About the Author

Hello readers, I’m Tessa!

I’m happy you’re here. I really enjoy sharing my written work with you and I hope you are able to connect with my writing despite the difference between our experiences and interests.

My story:

I was born on April 28, 1999 in Manitoba, Canada. Living in such a beautiful country has allowed me to appreciate the landscape and freedom, especially knowing it is a privilege to have access to free healthcare and educational opportunities. From the prairies to the mountains and arctic lands, I am proud to call this country home.

I began writing songs at the age of nine and was completely overjoyed when I was gifted my first guitar at age thirteen. I continued to write songs until I struggled with the idea that I was not good enough to have a career in the music industry. Eventually, I decided to join a high school journalism club which allowed my written work to be published in the local newspaper. I realized through this group and by connecting with other writers that being a writer and journalist is a long-term goal of mine. Currently, I am in the process of getting a degree in Rhetoric, Writing and Communications with a minor in human rights at the University of Winnipeg.

Why this blog?

A day well spent is a day filled to the brim with writing, creating, and expressing words that drip slowly, words that spill angrily or words that ring with ease and purpose. Writing heals, calms and manifests a time of reflection. On the days when I wish for the world to stop spinning, writing swoops my planted feet off the ground and tells me to move. I could lose every friend, every sense of hope, every last light of confidence, trust or respect, but my love for writing would still be present. Sometimes it is the only way I know how to feel alive. And if you find something, anything, that has the ability to transform the lost pieces of you, allow it to carry you near and far without ever losing sight of the ways it makes you grow.
