The Adventures of Exploring My Homeland

Moving to a new city comes with emotions ranging from complete and utter nervousness to upright excitement. Now that I am settled into my new apartment with my sister and roommate, we took today’s holiday as the perfect opportunity to explore the city. Waking up bright and early once more and preparing coffee and breakfast, we dressed up to begin our impromptu adventuring.

We had heard of the astonishing Saint Boniface Cathedral before but had no idea what to expect beforehand. As we made the drive across the city of Winnipeg, MB to this beautiful monstrous church, we found it so hard to believe that we were still in the same city! The Saint Boniface Cathedral was established in 1818 making its architectural designs that much more pleasing to the eye. This morning as we walked in awe throughout the stoned floor of the church we were adjoined by multiple sketch artists. Although I wish to travel to so many places around the world, I couldn’t help but feel like I was in some European country amidst standing in this Cathedral. The stunning landscape with a hint of the fall season upon us paired with people drawing felt so inspiring. The school season has arrived and tomorrow being my first day, surrounded among these students participating in a subject they feel passionate for allowed me to feel excited for my future. Also by choosing this space for their work, created such a peaceful environment and altogether uplifted anyone who chose to explore this historical sighting.

Following the exploration of the Saint Boniface Cathedral, Micaela and I walked down the street to the Saint Boniface Museum formally known as a convent built between 1845-1851 that housed the first nuns to come to western Canada. Overall this landmark to the Saint Boniface area has been well-preserved and proves to be a great educational opportunity of learning for anyone interested in the history of Manitoba. Next, we walked on the Taché Promenade which serves as a walkway along the Red River leading to the Esplanade Riel which is a pedestrian bridge built-in honour of Louis Riel. There is also a restaurant on this bridge that has large windows allowing any person to overlook the city while eating a delicious meal. Today we didn’t have the chance to eat at this restaurant, but judging by the menu posted to the door, we shall stop in soon!

Our next destination to our adventure was stopping in at The Forks. This is an area full of cute little shops. While we were inside the main building it began pouring rain so we ended up staying here for a while considering the walk back to the car was a bit of a stretch. However, I can’t complain much because we ordered hot chocolate and cinnamon buns for lunch. After spending a few hours browsing around, we made our way to the exchange district in Winnipeg, MB. On Friday nights, this area of town is bumping with positive vibes, but with today being a holiday there wasn’t much open. Soon after a very eventful morning and afternoon of exploring we decided to head back home to relax.

With that, I am very proud to say that this city is my new home. I think sometimes humans get so caught up in their daily dramas that we forget to take the time to truly value our surroundings and love where we come from. Canada is truly a beautiful country and Winnipeg, MB is only a tiny piece of it. There is so much to this country that I have yet to explore and I hope that this story of my adventures from today resonates with you in a way where you feel more appreciative of your own surroundings. Life is quite extraordinary, my dear if you choose to view it with the eyes that it deserves to be seen with.

Xoxo,
